Condensed Milk Bread
Ingredients
For the Dough
• 4 cups (500g) bread flour
• ¼ cup (50g) granulated sugar
• 2¼ tsp (7g) instant yeast
• 1 tsp salt
• ½ cup (120g) sweetened condensed milk
• ¾ cup (180ml) warm milk
• 1 large egg
• ¼ cup (60g) unsalted butter, softened
• 1 tsp vanilla extract
For the Top
• 1 tbsp melted butter
• 1 tbsp condensed milk, optional
Method
1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
2. Add the condensed milk, warm milk, egg, vanilla, and softened butter.
3. Mix until a soft dough forms.
4. Knead for 8–10 minutes, until smooth, elastic, and slightly tacky.
5. Place in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and allow to rise for 1–1½ hours, or until doubled in size.
6. Punch down the dough and divide into 8–10 equal portions.
7. Shape each portion into a smooth ball and arrange in a greased baking pan, leaving small spaces between them.
8. Cover and allow to rise again for 30–45 minutes, until very puffy.
9. Brush the tops lightly with milk or beaten egg.
10. Bake at 175°C (350°F) for 20–25 minutes, until lightly golden.
11. Brush the hot bread with melted butter immediately after removing it from the oven.
12. For extra sweetness, lightly drizzle or brush the warm tops with condensed milk.
13. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
