Sticky Lemon Pepper Tofu

You will need:

 

1 block(450g) of firm Tofu
1/2 cup corn starch
Juice from 1 lemon
1/2 tsp lemon zest
1/2 cup maple syrup or Agave
1/4 cup water
1Tsp corn starch slurry(1tsp cornstarch dissolved with water)
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp chopped green onion aka scallion(garnish)
2 Tb oil
1/2 tsp chili flakes(garnish)

Step 1:

 

Cut tofu in bite size triangle pieces
Coat tofu with corn starch
Fry tofu in hot oil until all sides of your
tofu is lightly crispy and set your pieces aside

Step 2:

 

Heat 2 Tb of oil in a pan
Add in maple or agave syrup, lemon juice, lemon zest, water, corn starch slurry and stir until your sauce is reduced to a sticky consistency,
you should see bubbles all throughout your sauce.

 


Mix in your crispy tofu pieces until they are all coated.
Mix in salt & pepper
Once well mixed in, garnish with chili flakes, green onions and done! 

 

To give your food a divine charr before garnishing, turn up your burner to high heat during the last 15 seconds of your cooking process and move your tofu around quickly so they charr without burning.
