Italian meatball casserole – perfect for the whole family
Today we have an absolute feel-good dish: our Italian meatball casserole with spicy salsiccia and juicy meatballs. The combination of ground beef and salsiccia brings an incredible explosion of flavor to your plate, rounded off with a hearty tomato sauce and a crispy cheese crust.
Ingredients for 4 people:
300g salsiccia or coarse bratwurst
500g ground beef
1 tbsp tomato paste
2 onions
3 cloves of garlic
2 cans of chopped tomatoes (425 ml each)
200g short tube pasta (e.g. Mezzi Rigatoni)
100g mountain cheese or Parmesan (grated)
6-8 sprigs of basil
Fresh thyme and oregano sprigs
3 tbsp olive oil
Salt & pepper
Recipe for 4 people:
Meatballs: Mix together ground beef, salsiccia, tomato paste, basil, garlic, salt & pepper and form 12 meatballs. Fry and set aside.
Tomato sauce: Sauté onions and garlic until translucent, add chopped tomatoes and water. Season with salt, pepper, thyme and oregano. Simmer for 5 minutes.
Casserole: Add uncooked pasta to the sauce, spread meatballs on top, sprinkle with cheese.
Baking: Bake at 180°C for 30 minutes until the cheese is golden brown.
Perfect with: A fresh rocket salad and a glass of Chianti!
