Tomato-mozzarella pasta bake

INGREDIENTS

FOR THE PASTA

2 liters of water
½ teaspoon salt
300 g dry pasta (e.g. tortiglioni)

FOR THE TOMATO SAUCE

1 onion
1 clove of garlic
1 tablespoon olive oil
400 g chopped tomatoes (from a can)
1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs
some salt
some black pepper
2 tablespoons cream

ALSO

10 cocktail tomatoes
200 g mozzarella
10 fresh basil leaves

PREPARATION

1. For the pasta, put water with salt in a large pot and bring to the boil.  Cook the pasta for 8 minutes until al dente. Drain through a sieve and rinse the pasta briefly with cold water.

2. For the tomato sauce, peel the onion and cut into small cubes. Peel and press the garlic. Heat the oil in a pan. Sauté the onion cubes and garlic until translucent.

3. Add the chopped tomatoes and let the tomato sauce simmer for 5 minutes. Season the sauce with a little salt, pepper and Italian herbs. Add the cream and stir briefly.

4. Mix the pasta with the tomato sauce. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees top and bottom heat (fan oven 180 degrees). Wash, dry and halve the cocktail tomatoes. Mix the tomato halves into the pasta.

5. Tear the mozzarella into small pieces and mix in as well. Put everything in a casserole dish and bake for 25 minutes. Decorate with fresh basil. Enjoy your meal!
