HOMEMADE CHURROS WITH CHOCOLATE

Homemade churros with chocolate are a delight that combines the crunchy texture of churros with the softness and sweetness of chocolate.  Preparing churros at home can be a rewarding experience, since the process of making the dough and then frying it results in those characteristic churros that are golden on the outside and fluffy on the inside.

Ingredients

For the churros:
300 grams of wheat flour
440 milliliters of water
1 teaspoon salt
30 grams of butter
sugar (to decorate)
extra virgin olive oil (for frying)
For the hot chocolate:
400 grams of chocolate
1 liter of milk

Preparation

To prepare the homemade churros:

1. Put the water, salt and butter in a saucepan and heat it.  When it starts to boil, add the flour, stir and remove from heat.  Mix everything well until you have a compact dough.  Put the dough in a bowl, cover it with plastic wrap and let it rest in the refrigerator for a few hours (if it’s overnight, better).

2. Place the dough in a rigid pastry bag or churrera (make sure the dough is compact and airless so that the oil does not escape when frying).

3. Put a saucepan with plenty of oil on the heat.  When the oil is hot, add portions of dough with the pastry bag and cut them with scissors.  Fry the churros until golden.  Then, leave them on a plate with absorbent paper to remove excess oil.

For the hot chocolate:

1. Put the chopped chocolate and milk in a saucepan over the heat.  Let it cook while stirring until the chocolate has completely melted and the texture is to your liking.  If you want it thicker, let it cook longer.

2. Serve the homemade churros sprinkled with sugar and accompany them with the chocolate in the cup.
