My Minimalist Winter Wardrobe (Closet + Dresser Tour)

hello and welcome to abundantly minimal
my name is Sarah and I create videos
helping people live their best lives
with less now in the past I’ve done some
videos related to decluttering my closet
in various phases of life but I thought
that today I’d mix it up a little bit
and show you what exactly is in my
wardrobe and we’re going to cover all
the things we’ll start out with pants
then we’ll go into tops and dresses
we’ll go into like basic type of pieces
we’ll do active wear pajamas and then
socks bras and underwear so we’ll really
cover all of the bases here now I should
preface this and you probably know if
you’ve been following me for a while I
do not think I have a lot of fashion
expertise or that I should be considered
like a style icon it’s never been a
strength of mine my style is very comfy
and functional so if that sounds like
your style great if you’re looking for
something a little bit more high-end or
you know fancily put together probably
not the right place for you as we go
through this video I’ll be sharing a few
key details related to where I got it or
how I wear it all of that and in general
things have come from three main places
either they are secondhand
I love second-hand shopping also I
really love choosing sustainable and
ethical brands so if I have purchased
something new in the last five years or
so it would definitely be from a
sustainable brand which I’ll talk about
when we get to those items as well as
there are some items that I’ve had for a
long time and were originally purchased
unfortunately from like fast fashion
companies to start things out this is
just a packed organic cotton sweatshirt
packed is a company I’ll be mentioning a
lot today they do a lot of organic
fabrics as well as they are a fair trade
company so great ethical option and
prices are pretty reasonable so this is
a sweater that I love with them this is
also a packed sports bra underneath and
I’m just wearing some yoga pants these
are Lululemon but I purchased them for
$4 at Goodwill many years ago and I wear
them at this phase in life nearly every
day and love them they’re super comfy
one other thing I should also mention is
I
work from home now so I was able to let
go of a few of my professional clothes
that I actually hated but only had
because I needed them for more so
professional purposes which now I’m
grateful that I don’t need anymore first
up I have two pairs of pants I have one
pair of jeans and one pair of khakis
sort of pants these are definitely the
most formal pants I own although
honestly to me jeans seem pretty formal
now so I don’t wear these a ton anymore
just because I do enjoy my comfy things
or leggings these two pair really nicely
with most of the shirts I have so it
really creates a wonderful mix-and-match
opportunity as you’ll see later in the
video and both of these were purchased
secondhand I’ll do dresses next since I
don’t have many of them I will say my
winter wardrobe is more minimal than my
summer wardrobe often in the summer I
like to travel and I’ll also really
enjoy wearing different dresses out and
about and that gives me a lot of joy so
I don’t think it makes sense to reduce
that amount of dresses but I have four
dresses that I guess I would classify as
winter or all year dresses as you’ll see
first up a basic gray sweater dress this
was purchased secondhand and I love it
especially became a great teaching
staple of mine when I was teaching I
also have this cream-colored sweater
dress which I also would wear a lot with
teaching and it’s very cozy and it’s
super easy to pair them with leggings
this dress here is the formal dress that
I use for formal events such as weddings
so last year I purchased it secondhand
in May because we had three weddings
this summer and I wore it every single
wedding I really like it it’s definitely
a little flashy but I do enjoy color
just like I like neutral tones as well
and it’s worked really well for me going
forward we have three weddings scheduled
so far this next summer assuming this
dress still fits hopefully I’ll be
pregnant by that time but anyway it’s
been really great so far and this is a
dress that really can be all season I
wore this a lot with teaching as well
it’s got pockets this was one purchased
new I believe ages ago
I love the blue color and will to
quickly pair it with some sort of little
sweater so it can definitely be more of
a winter dress if i pair it with
leggings and a sweater now we’ll start
moving into jackets and sweaters now to
start I do have two fairly similar
cream-colored sweaters here I have to
say my favorite color to wear is
probably white and various shades of
white for whatever reason so I do really
enjoy both of these these were purchased
secondhand and they both have a slightly
different feel this one’s a bit thicker
and heavier duty so if it’s a bit of a
colder day I can wear this and then this
one’s a little bit more of a thin knit
type sweater but it actually is organic
cotton and from the brand prana again
purchase secondhand but I was very
excited because it’s tough sometimes to
find those super epic sustainable brands
secondhand but my sister actually found
this for me at a thrift store we were at
together so I also enjoy this one
definitely if you are really trying to
focus on having as few pieces as
possible someone could definitely
classify this as a duplicate and think
well you really only need one for me
I’ve never been about you know X number
of pieces I don’t practice extreme
minimalism in any way so if it adds
value and I wear them which I wear both
and with different things then there’s
no shame in keeping them so I’ve got
this I also have two little very light
knit pieces these I think I’ve had for
10 years I’m not proud to say that the
brand on both is forever 21 this was
before I was well informed about fast
fashion but um a lot of people say that
stuff falls apart but we’re going on 10
years on these two things and they’re
definitely thin and there might be a
little hole in the sleeve on this one
but they’ve still worked they both serve
different purposes
this thicker one I was more likely to
wear to work over a jacket just because
this one’s a little nicer and then this
thin one it’s so thin you can see
through it but this would be good if it
was a hot day but you needed a little
extra coverage one very specific use for
this that I’ve loved using it for has
been when I’m
traveling it’s so small that it’s very
easy to just crumple up and put in my
purse and then if we’re especially
traveling internationally I love
architecture and we might be going to
different places of worship and if I’m
wearing you know summery clothes that
maybe don’t have enough skin covered
such as you know a tank top of some sort
or a sleeveless dress and they might not
let you into the place of worship with
that kind of attire I can just put this
on and this has been a game changer for
me in those situations so I have
definitely worn this a ton and got my
money’s worth out of it and then I don’t
really necessarily wear this in the
winter I would say this is more part of
like a spring wardrobe but a basic denim
jacket I’ve had this for over 10 years
as well and it just works really nice to
pair with dresses and that kind of thing
this is a packed sweatshirt so same
brand as this organic cotton sustainable
just super cozy comfy around the house
type of sweater that I really enjoy this
is a sweater that I purchased used it’s
nice and thick I enjoy the cowl neck
style and this is more of like a formal
sweater that I have worn to family
gatherings and events that kind of thing
and my last sweater or sweatshirt is
just this purple sweatshirt this was a
gift I think maybe six years ago at this
point again not a brand I would stand by
but I do enjoy the color of it as well
as it is a nice cozy option as well this
can also be good for working out moving
on I have seven shirts that I deem is
like fall / winter shirts that I wear
now some of these I’ll layer underneath
some of those jackets I showed you as
well as these are more formal honestly
you’ll probably recognize a lot of these
from my videos this is just a very basic
black shirt that I’ve had for years I
don’t even remember when I got it but it
was at least probably eight or nine
years ago so it wasn’t purchased
secondhand or from an ethical company
but I wear this all the time and love
layering it it looks put together this
isn’t a shirt you see in my videos
recently but it says herbivore I
purchased it at a cool vegan grocery
store when we visited Portland a couple
years ago I do enjoy that and if I go to
like a vegan festival or something I’ll
tipic
where this as well as I do like the
style of it very basic blue knit top
this is really nice to layer as well
this was purchased secondhand I know
you’ve seen this one in many of my
videos I love this red sweater I pink
sweater I guess depending on the
lighting I purchased it from pact I
think two years ago again 100% organic
cotton it is a little sort of scandalous
for my style because it has an open back
which is very fun again I’m not super
fashion forward but I I do enjoy wearing
that and so I will wear that with a tank
or something like that obviously in the
videos you only see the front student
maybe know that but yes I do and I do
think that’s kind of kind of a fun style
there and it’s very comfortable and cozy
besides the open back part all right
this I’ve had forever as well it’s
actually starting to get a bit thin in
the back because I’ve worn it so much
you probably seen this in videos of mine
as well my mom actually gave this to me
from her closet which was cool so I
don’t know exactly the backstory on it
but it was just like the perfect thing
for I don’t remember the reason but I
was very appreciative and I’ve worn this
a bunch
I’m sure you’ve definitely seen this one
on the channel this is Patagonia I
personally received as a gift but
Patagonia is an incredible company as
well and yeah just super comfortable I
don’t feel like I probably use it too
much with its intended use which is
probably more outdoorsy well have a hood
on it as well as kind of a see-through
back but very breathable one of the
reasons I use it most is because it fits
my brand colors perfectly for abundantly
minimal my favorite colors blue and so
if you go on to abundantly minimal calm
you’ll see there’s a lot of blue very
calming color so I do love that element
and it’s very comfortable so I’ll
usually just put a tank on underneath
this as well and you’ll probably
continue to see it in videos lastly this
was actually a fairly recent addition
back when I filmed a video in November
about intentional shopping habits which
I’ll link below we were actually at the
thrift store my mom was helping me film
some clips and I actually saw this there
and just a super drapey comfortable top
and I’ve been loving this so I feel like
you’ve probably seen it in a couple
videos recently I think as I was younger
and I was figuring out my style I used
to be a much bigger fan of tight-fitting
things but I think you know through
various body changes and progressing
through life I realized that you know
something that’s super tight is not
necessarily always the best thing I
still have some of those kind of pieces
as well but I’m definitely opting for
more of these like drapey type of
materials at this point now I want to go
through some very basic pieces that I’ll
typically wear underneath different
things we’ve got first up this tank from
organic basics organic basics is
definitely an incredible company
honestly they’re like the most
sustainable company that I’m aware of
ranging from the materials themselves to
the packaging to just the high quality
aspect of their pieces so this tank is
great I’ll often wear either underneath
like a little jacket or sweater like I
showed you but I can also wear it for
active wear too so it’s really a great
all-purpose tank alright so yeah organic
basics is awesome I do have a discount
code that I’ll leave linked below if you
want to check it out I also have you
know a basic black shirt this is also
from organic basics as well as a basic
white shirt also from organic basics so
just keeping it simple
underneath various things or if I’m just
wearing it by itself with jeans it’s a
very simple look and then also I have
just this tank that I wear underneath
different things as well this is packed
once again so those are probably my two
favorite companies that I recommend the
most organic basics and packed and the
discount codes will be linked in the
description field a few more basic items
I have a couple packed shirts as well as
there’s currently one in the wash right
now I love the colors on these organic
cotton once again and yeah I’m just very
comfortable I’ll often wear these
underneath like that black sweatshirt I
showed you earlier this is also just a
regular packed long-sleeve white top and
I can either wear this by itself or that
when I was teaching I had one school
spirit shirt because that’s all I buy I
don’t need all the t-shirts just one and
I would wear that
over the top of this in the winter since
it was just a basic short sleeve shirt
as well as it’s very comfortable so I
mean it could definitely work with other
things and then my mom is a big fan of
the brand cuddle duds and so there was a
phase where she purchased the clearanced
ones at the end of the season and so she
gave me some which was very nice I know
definitely it’s nice to layer these
underneath your other clothes especially
in the winter months using those extra
layers is a great way that you can
actually lower the thermostat and keep
your energy costs down well also stay an
extra cozy so I have just a white one as
well as this gray striped one as well as
just the plain gray one so I have worn
these I think and maybe a couple videos
here and there but typically they’re
underneath things just to help me stay
extra cozy that wraps up what is in the
closet here but now we’re gonna move
over to the dresser and I’ll be showing
you my active wear pajamas bras
underwear and socks let’s start first
with active wear I’m going to jump back
over here again active wear bottoms
specifically also just personal
preference I choose to roll my clothes
in my dresser I don’t really practice
any fancy folding or anything you know
this just is simple and it’s worked for
me when I’ve traveled it’s worked for me
just I mean I’ve been doing this for
years also this is active wear but a lot
of it is like the leggings that I wore
with the dresses so I do have two pairs
of these black packed leggings which I
wear with the sweater dresses so they
are very comfortable and that’s wear
them underneath now I actually had
thought about if I should get rid of one
of them just because I didn’t need to
but since I like them so much I have a
feeling you know at some point in life
they will wear out so I figured might as
well keep two of them keep them both for
now so that you’ve got the wine reserved
I also have a pair of they’re like Capri
style leggings which I do really enjoy
for working out purposes the best
leggings I’ve ever had are the organic
basics leggings however I love the
colors of them I’ve got this red one as
well as the
one and these by far are just so
ridiculously sturdy I enjoy wearing them
just around the house as well as when
I’m actually exercising actually the
sweatshirt combo I will often wear with
either of these because I think they go
well together so definitely if you’re
looking for some sustainable active wear
I could not recommend these enough not
like see-through at all and I would say
the leggings are these are higher
quality than the packed ones I also
these are older these I had purchased
secondhand I think they’re Reebok
leggings workout pants so they’re a
little fun you can definitely tell that
I enjoy my colors I got these when I
worked out for a couple months at Pure
Barre last year actually in 2018 oh my
goodness
time is flying I really liked going it
was in my opinion too expensive to
maintain long term but I went for a
couple months and enjoyed it and at that
point I didn’t have any workout leggings
so I bought these and they’re also
really great and one of my two daily
goals of 2020 is to be exercising every
day even if it’s just a little bit and
I’m so far I have taken no days off so I
used to think oh you have to have a rest
day but what I’m doing many of the days
is not intense enough that I have to
take rest days like going for you know a
30-minute walk in the neighborhood you
don’t have to rest from that so I I’m
doing it everyday as the goal is the
plan so that’s the act of our bottoms
now let’s get into the tops and actually
with all of these these would be both
seasons because they are mostly short
sleeve or tank top but if you’re
exercising like I don’t want a
long-sleeve shirt on most of the time
this is a very chill top and actually I
use this somewhat as pajamas or like
around the house clothes in the summer
because it does have a built-in sports
bra which is not enough when you’re
doing a lot of working out but when
you’re just around the house it’s
totally fine this also has purchased
secondhand this is from gap body and I
thought it was cool there is a sports
bra inside it’s got you know like mushy
breathable fabric in between which i
think is kind of cool
I will also wear this like with those
organic basics leggings if I’m working
out this one sort of secondhand my mom
did not want it anymore so she asked me
if I want
and I said yes so I wear this as well to
exercise in and then personally with
different like promotional t-shirts I
find those are great to work out in just
because I don’t personally feel the need
to wear a bunch of that promotional type
of stuff and honestly I’ve gotten rid of
so many as well over the years this one
actually I love this one I got when I
worked at an environmental nonprofit for
the summer
this one was from a teacher group in
college it’s just very basic on the
front and on the back it says be a
superhero teach about a year ago I got
this shirt from Teachers Pay Teachers
which I sell I lesson plans on the site
and this one’s super comfy by the way
but I do workout in this one this is for
kajabi which is the online course
platform I use to host my minimalism
courses and I really like the platform
and I got this shirt as like a milestone
now we’ll just go down the line
socks pajamas bras and underwear there’s
not really much to see here in the sock
drawer I actually went through things a
bit as some like background footage when
I was filming my 10-minute declutter
video I used the sock tour as one of my
10-minute D clutters I do keep my
swimsuit in here as well just because
there’s nothing that scratches on it so
this suit I’ve had for a couple years
now
it’s from the company somersault and it
is a more sustainable company I did a
lot of research to try to pick a you
know swimsuit company that I wanted to
purchase from and they made the cut
there are obviously some socks that I’m
currently wearing as well as that are in
the dirty clothes at the moment so this
isn’t everything I have some skinnier
socks that are more so activewear socks
these like flat style socks I actually
really enjoy wearing in the warmer
months just so there’s like a little
something on your feet but it doesn’t
feel as warm as a sock does so it’s not
really their time of year but I do enjoy
these they are from pact these are just
kind of some old mismatched socks I am a
firm believer in wearing socks to the
ground until there’s holes in them so we
are definitely going to just keep
wearing these out a lot of them don’t
have their match anymore
which is why going forward any future
socks I purchased I
to all be the same type so that it
doesn’t matter if you lose one or one
gets a hole because you can just keep
wearing them you won’t actually know
which ones missing and these are kind of
my favorite everyday socks for the
winter these great ones here technically
these are adidas I think I got a set of
like maybe twelve pairs for Christmas
one year so that’s kind of where where
these are from
moving on to pajamas these are not in my
drawer these are my everyday pajamas and
I’m gonna warn you they might be the
ugliest pajamas you’ve ever seen however
I don’t care because they are my beloved
pajamas now to start out we do have lawn
underwear I have two pairs of these I
have a black pair and a white pair so I
just kind of alternate in the winter
it’s so cold so I definitely want to be
very cozy
so that’s on underneath the pants which
I don’t think are you know the ugliest
thing I was able to purchase the second
hand they have pockets which was amazing
these have been awesome since that and
technically if I’m feeling you know what
who cares I can wear these out in public
and you know no one necessarily notices
I mean I definitely don’t look that good
but I mean like I said I don’t care so
I’ve got those on the bottom and then I
do have two t-shirts that I switch
between again ugliest outfit ever but
this shirt is so comfy this was a
promotional shirt for the tea company
new me which I do love and it’s got a
teapot with some roots on it again one
of the ugliest shirts I’ve ever seen to
be honest but it’s so soft I believe
it’s a hundred percent organic cotton
like I said I got it for free yeah it’s
100% organic cotton so I definitely want
it so baggy like it just not a good look
at all but it’s my every night shirt for
the most part to top it all off it used
to be yellow I don’t know if you can
still tell to me it’s still yellow but
it’s lost a little bit of its color but
I have worn this sweatshirt so much the
back story about it my grandma passed
away back in 2014 and I was about the
same size as her
and my grandpa was going through things
and he asked if we wanted any other
stuff so I I took some pieces of
clothing and at this point I don’t have
I don’t think any of the other stuff
either I was heavier at that point and I
had lost a bunch of the weight so some
of those items didn’t fit anymore but I
just have loved the sweater and I know
it’s one of the ugliest sweaters ever
but I honestly wear it all the time and
it is definitely wearing out at this
point I’ve got a few holes in the elbow
of the sleeve but this is kind of like
my look this is kind of my look in the
in the winter months for pajamas and as
far as the other two things I mentioned
black one underwear which is cuddle dead
brand that my mom had gotten as well as
just another basic t-shirt there are
some summer pajamas here but let’s do
bras so I have three sports bras I’m
currently wearing one there is one in
the dirty clothes also obviously I’m not
gonna be trying this stuff on just
because you know this is a very
family-friendly Channel yeah we’re not
gonna be doing any of that but I am
obsessed with this sports bra it’s got a
little bit of a braided thing here which
I like as well as braided in the back
which i think is cool definitely very
sturdy and supportive and then I have
three other bras first I have a bralette
so just very low-key not a lot of
support but it’s fun and comfortable but
also is packed so the organic cotton
this is a basic black everyday bra that
I love this one is organic basics super
super comfortable it almost doesn’t even
feel like you’re wearing a bra which’s
is always great when when that happens
super soft so I really enjoy this one
when I don’t enjoy as much but I haven’t
yet replaced if you if if you can relate
having that old like grody bra this is
my tan one that has definitely seen
better days
this was purchased quite a while ago I
think it was clearance at a store not
really a fan I do need to replace I just
haven’t um it doesn’t seem like a high
enough priority or financial need to
replace it yet but needs to happen
some point all right and now the final
point of the video the underwear which I
don’t think I’ve talked about on this
channel before but let’s take a look now
you might look at this and go that
doesn’t really seem like a minimal
amount of underwear no it’s probably not
I am embarrassed to say at one point
though I had over fifty pairs of
underwear which I don’t think makes
sense because I was never the type of
person who would not do laundry for like
a month and a half maybe two or three
weeks tops but there’s really no reason
I had to have so many and I have gotten
rid of some but one of my personal
opinions is with underwear why not wear
it out and get as much value as you can
since you’re not gonna be able to just
donate that and someone else use it
that’s not really how it works so that’s
my thought so some of these I’ve had for
ages but you know you do what you got to
do to get started just my most bulky
pairs here are from the brand thinks
which I’m obsessed with they are period
underwear so I do have five pairs of the
black organic cotton bikini I think also
personally I don’t fold underwear to me
it’s never been a concern I just think
it’s easier that way so I do use the
thinks underwear and I love using them
as well as I do pair them with a Diva
Cup as far as you know periods are
concerned and then there’s a wide range
of underwear here the best underwear I
have is from organic basics I love that
it’s got a really sturdy waistband as
well as super comfortable they are so
soft and silky so I love this I
definitely wear more black underwear in
these days than I used to but I really
enjoy those I have two of them whenever
it comes time to replace some of what I
have with new underwear I think I will
definitely continue purchasing from
organic basic since their underwear
seems to be unmatched it’s the best I
found I do have some packed underwear as
well which also super comfortable they
don’t have that thicker waistband like
the organic basics ones do even though
they’re also just very soft so they’re
probably my second favorite I think I’ve
got four pairs of them back when I was a
lot younger sometimes we would get these
coupons for free underwear at Victoria’s
Secret which
honestly I never shopped at but we
definitely would make the most of those
coupons so sometimes going in and
picking out a pair I would be the type
that I’m very stubborn so I’m not one to
be tempted by these other products like
if there’s a free thing I’m gonna get
the free thing and I’m gonna get out so
that’s the only reason I have one of
these but these are very comfortable all
right I do have 9 pairs here there’s
probably one pair in the dirty clothes
of these they’re all the same style I
wore these starting in high school and
throughout you know college they were
probably like my only type of underwear
they are starting to fall apart you
won’t be able to see this because it’s
not zoomed in enough but pieces of the
elastic are starting to come out here so
I don’t think these are going to last
you know years more but at least for now
I’m gonna keep wearing them keep using
them since they’re what I have and like
I said they are very comfortable they
just I wouldn’t put them at the same
level as the other underwear styles I
talked about already and of course you
know you have a couple just random gross
pairs that you use for some of those
gross days and that wraps up my
minimalist winter wardrobe again we all
have to decide what makes the most sense
for us and I obviously have spent quite
a bit of time walking you through all
the different things as well as how I
wear them where I got them all of that
as I mentioned earlier I do have
discount codes for both organic basics
and pact just to clarify this is not a
sponsored video at all I just do really
love both of those companies and let me
know if this is a type of video that you
enjoyed because if so I would totally be
up to do a summer version as well
earlier on I mentioned some clothing
decluttering video so I’ll actually link
my most recent one up top as well as
another video you might like over here
and of course if you are new to the
channel definitely subscribe right over
here we’ll see you next time bye
